Kaloor Coffee Shop is owned by the BTH group.  The same people behind ‘Sarovaram’ . The place opened shop long ago and the ambience is the testimony. The place that serves  veg (dosas, vada,etc ) along with good tea and coffee. Its a Small place with a seating capacity of almost 20. The perfect family place. Because it is usually never crowded . But the  place is good for a gang of friends who wouldn’t  like to spend  too much of  time over coffee and food. Because there are no couch ,just chairs and tables.It is self service.

There are people who drink ‘kallu’ or toddy just to get drunk and there are the others who doesn’t drink to get drunk but likes the whole package (like this gallan).Biking with friends to the shappu(toddy shop) chatting and talking NONSENSE while gulping delicious spicy NADAN kerala food.If you are of the category mentioned later  then given below are ‘the top 10 shappu in ekm’(this Gallan’s  favorite).Do visit it.

NOTE-The following is this gallans fav.Please do inform Mr.Kochigallan, the shappu You think is more exotic,and not yet explored by many.Well there are shappus that are described as the best in the world.But dont expect a ‘shappu’ to be a five star hotel or something.A ‘shappu’ no matter how popular is a ‘shappu’.May be being in the middle of a ‘mullapanthal’ or owning a website(mullapanthal.com) in its name may be the reason of Mullapanthals extreme popularity.But this gallan seems to differ from that opinion.The ‘shappus’ mentioned below are really awesome and are not rated according to the services and stuff but according to the popularity.This gallan had seen many people have good time there.From top level M.N.Cs to the super idiotic alcoholics.Service in majority of the ‘shappu’ is awesome.You can get any nadan dish here that too without digging deep into the pockets.No wonder hi-fi partying people even from colleges like Rajagiri engineering have their birthday parties at ‘shappu’.There is no quality check as far as Kallu is concerned.So better double check before you drink.

Ever wanted to pose with your friends for a photo in the style as depicted by Aamir Khan and crew in the Bollywood flick ‘Rang de Basanti’ ? Wherein they all jump towards the sky to reach a low flying jet. Well, Gallan can help you with it. No no, Gallan is not out of his senses, he is pretty sure about it. And the place for shoot not being inside any studio, if you doubt it to be impossible. Yes, Gallan is speaking about a spot where you can just touch a low flying airplane!!!! And undoubtedly, this G-Spot or Gallan Spot ( ), as Gallan would like to name it, is near the Nedumbassery International airport.
Gallan went with a couple of his friends and have shot a few pictures of the G-spot, which have been shown here. And if you wanna try, Gallan can help you, as always, and that is what Gallan is here for .

Way to the G-spot:

If you are traveling from Aluva to Nedumbassery, then after reaching the International section gate of the airport, one will have to take the straight road again, without entering the compound of the airport. After almost a 200 meters, you can find a small culvert ( Malayalathil paranja, Kalingu ). Take right from that point and travel straight through that road. There will be many S-Turns, but you just have to travel straight till you find the thorn-laid wall of the airport. Now, travel through the road that lies parallel to that wall until you reach a pretty descent area after a sharp turn, where you can park you vehicle (up to 2-3 cars can be parked easily ). This is the G-spot . You can actually see a big gate to the airport which remains closed always, pretty descent vegetation or plantations and a bridge near to it. If all the clues match, then you can be sure that you have reached the G-spot!!!
Sometimes you might be lucky enough that your arrival may be accompanied by the flight of an aircraft. Or may be you will have to wait 10-20 mins for an aircraft to fly over your head, just about to touch it.
No matter if you have to stay a bit longer, cos the nature is pretty beautiful in this area and you can relax with no worries.

Now this is something really important. If at all you plan to visit this spot, make sure to carry two things with you.
1. A camera that can help you take good pics, hehe..and someone good enough to operate it as well..hehehehe..
2. A permanent marker chalk or a knife. And write on the wall out there the following words..
“Gallan was here” along with your name..:) Or if anyone has already written it, just write it again if you want, but don’t forget to add your names to the list..

The coffee shop by the waters, thats what barista is! Located at the Bay Pride Mall facing Marine Drive, it is the perfect place for a hangout and extremely good coffee. they have munchies for all kind of people. Even though the prices are a little high, the food, ambience and excellent customer service pays up to it. the barista has wi-fi even though they charge you for it. they provide you with board games like checkers, ludo, chess, etc. they have world class cappucino priced at Rs.40 and chocolate cakes are a speciality. you may even try your own recipe, the staff will help u with it. you can stay there for how much ever time you want waiting for your late-coming beloved, or blasting out with your huge gang of friends or alone staring into the waters..!!

How to get here:
The easiest and most simple way rather than having to ask so many people for directions is to take a bus which says fort kochi and get down at the last stop and trust me you will definitely find your way to the beach from there onwards.
This is one place where parents are scared to send their children alone to. Situated off the Arabian Sea, not a lot of people might think of fort kochi beach as a great hangout spot. Due to the constant fear of drunkards, drug addicts and not to mention the stench of raw fish all over the place.
But there are two sides to every story! This is one place where you can forget all your worries and chill as you watch the waves. Lately cause of the huge tourist pour in, pathways have been built so that people can enjoy their morning/evening walk along with the serene sea breeze. Once you reach past these pathways there is this beautiful but small stretch of water where you can just soak your feet ( this is the only part of the beach where you can do that cause its sea-weed free) or bask in the sun. (I’m @ a loss of words from this point on )
Must see:
The Sunset at 6 is one marvelous sight which gives you that tingly feeling all over. It looks like the sun is going into the sea. So that makes this the perfect time to ask your girlfriend to marry you!
Meet a fortune teller and let him forecast your future or shed a few rupees and get a fine entertainment from an acrobat or snake-charmer.
Next time you want to take a breather from the bustling city life or just spend some loner time, an ideal location for relaxing and rejuvenating your spirits, as you will have plenty of peace and solitude for yourself in this place.

We sent off Josgal(a friend of Kochigallan)from the North railwaystation and headed straight to Mullapanthal.Don’t get me wrong Mullapanthal is one of the finest ‘kallu shappu’ or toddy shop in the whole of Ernakulam.

So where was I?.Yup sent off josgal and we set off (all six of us) in three bikes.It took us nearly an hour to reach Mullapanthal(blame it on the evening traffic).Mullapanthal is located far away fom the madding city.At Udayamperoor to be exact.From Ernakulam go to Tripunithura and ride/drive staright in Kottayam route.After travelling close to 10kms you will see a temple.Thats the identification.The road turns left and then right infront of the temple.Look for ‘Mullapanthal shappu’ signboard on the right side.Enter the shappu.Should I say the next part?

Every one expects a shappu to be a place where antisocial elements hangout.It is true for many shappu.But for shappu like mullapanthal,it differs.Well Kochigallan found people from all strata of society from top level executives of MNCs to the drunken idiots.Even families visit Mullapanthal.But Kochigallan dont advice it.Because a shppu is after all a shappu.

The Chinese have an old saying”any creature with its back facing the heaven is consumable if properly cooked”.Its true.Visit Mullapanthal and you’ll know.This Gallan had ‘udumpu fry’ ‘beef’ ‘kappa’ ‘kallumeinkya’ and two glasses of ‘kallu’(point to be noted.We drink just to give company not to get drunk and crash the bike somewhere).Tasted awesome.You will get daily special items.All traditional malayali food.

AMBIENCE
Ambience is average.I mean i like it but this gallans personal choice is ‘Chirakkal shappu’ as far as ambience is concerned.They provide seperate cabin(some people prfer privacy).And the ‘shappu has’ a small mulla panthal or jasmine garden in front.

BILL PLEASE
The total bill for this gallan came close to 150rs.Worth every penny(you don’t get to eat yummy’udumpufry’ daily).Thumbs up as far as bill is concerned.

At about 8pm all Gallans went back to home sweet home.Felling relaxed and chilled out(this gallan even foned his galfriend to say hes chilled).THE END.Hope you liked this story please complete it by commenting what this Gallan missed out.

One of my favourite hangout point in Aluva is undoubtedly Gopu’s tea shop.But you cant possibly take a girl for cup of cofee there.

So the gallan goes out to find a place to woo a woman. MINUS 24 is the location for you. With the ambiance that would keep you at peace and the temperature closer to comfort this is indeed a perfect place.They usually play soft music.But when we talk too loud they turn the volume level up.Minus 24 is also at Convent junction Ernakulam.Perfect spot for couples minus the PDA(public display of affection).(talking about romance Im still single……girls are you listening?).I still don’t know why the name minus 24….May be the temperature??? May be the age factor???

LOCATION:At the town itself .You can easily spot MINUS 24 as soon as you enter the Aluva private bus stand road.

100 bucks is more than enough for two.Well this Gallan ordered coffee and spent more than an hour there(They did’nt kick us out).Awesome place for birthday parties and other such informal meetings.So a PLUS point for the MINUS 24.
