The 5th HSBC Bird Race in Kerala will commence in Kochi on 13 November, 2011.  The birthday of the renowned ornithologist Salim Ali, also known as the “Bird Man of India” is the day close to when the bird watchers of the city gather their gear and set out for the nearby forests and suburbs, in a challenge to find out the rarest of birds. The task is to spot out the maximum number of the most unique birds in the class in a specific time slot.

In addition to Kochi, the race will also be held in the cities of Trivandrum and Kozhikode. This event holds the title for the only race to be conducted across multiple cities in the state on a single day! The race aims at spreading an awareness regarding birds and various tips about them, among the people.  Prizes will be given away to the team that records the maximum number of birds, bird of the day, eldest and youngest bird watcher of the day and so on…
