Ever since they got together sometime during late 2006, Whitesugar has steadily risen up the ladder to become one of the most popular bands in the Kerala. Armed with a signature sound which is a heady mix of folk and alternative music and a high octane stage presence, the 4 member outfit is one of the flag bearers in the ‘renaissance’ that is currently sweeping the cochin rock scene. Starting out as a RATM tribute band, their sound has slowly evolved down the years to what can best be described as a union between the aggression of LA rap core and the rustic charm of South Indian folk with shades of alternative thrown in the mix. The band is currently in the studio, working on their maiden album ‘Sugar Rush’ which will be out later this year.

A ‘whitesugar’ class perfomance!

Hailing from an Anglo Indian family in Pachalam, popularly known as the cradle of rock music in Kerala, Clement brings in that folk influenced funk flavour which sets apart Whitesugar from the rest of the crop. His guitar work speaks of an artist who has imbibed the best of many worlds and distilled it down to a definitive style that to keep it simple, ‘rocks’!

One of Whitesugar’s founding members; Gilbert Xavier is the driving force that fuels the band forward.  A raging thunderstorm behind the kit, Gilbert’s no frills no nonsense drumming provides the backbone that perfectly complements Whitesugar’s unique brand of rock music

If someone brings an element of sanity to the band, it’s Nijo Sebastian, the man behind the low end. His quiet demeanour and is more like the calm just before the storm because once he has his fingers on the bass, its unadulterated magic thereon. His classic bass lines are reminiscent of a bygone era yet truly contemporary in spirit.

With his charismatic stage presence and vocal prowess, James Jude Peter is your quintessential front man that every band yearns for and few ever possess. Hailing from a family of musicians who have performed in various bands in the city, James has carved out a niche of his own and is one of the most exciting vocalists in the current scene.
